The world should allow for the existence of the weak
A progressive society should be one where the weak can live a normal life without having to exert excessive effort
"Survival of the fittest", a phrase coined by Charles Darwin in his book "On the Origin of Species", reveals to us the harsh reality of competition in the world
In this world, there has always been a natural inclination towards competition and survival of the fittest. This has been a driving force for human evolution, but it can also lead to a callous disregard for those who are weaker or less capable. Sometimes, even if they put in more effort than others, they may still be unable to live the life they deserve.
The reason why I bring up this topic is that I have seen more and more women around me choosing to apply for civil service and state-owned enterprises because compared to the severe gender discrimination in private enterprises, civil service is a relatively fair position. Private enterprises are reluctant to recruit women because they may get pregnant, and when women take maternity leave, they cannot work, but the company still needs to pay salaries as usual. Therefore, many women in interviews will deliberately emphasize that they do not plan to have children. Ironically, while the Chinese government has been encouraging women to have more children in recent years, it has not created a good environment for women, while 20 years ago, the country was still implementing strict family planning policies.
Not only in China, but women in most countries around the world are in a disadvantaged position. In Iran, a woman named Mahsa Amini was detained by police and died during detention simply because she was not wearing a headscarf. Even in the United States, known for its freedom and rule of law, many states have caused significant social controversy in recent years due to the ban on abortion for women.
I used to live in Shenzhen for a while, which is one of the most developed cities in China, but it rarely considers people with disabilities and the elderly in urban construction. There is a road near my former residence where the red and green lights are on for a very short time, and even I, a young and physically healthy person, can barely make it through. I once saw an elderly person walking in the middle of the road, and the light turned red, and I still remember how helpless she looked. And considering facilities for disabled people is even rarer. It seems that the builders of the city have forgotten that there are also elderly and disabled people. If even a developed city like Shenzhen is like this, then the basic infrastructure for disabled and elderly people in other cities around the world may be even worse.
The weak are not to be seen as a burden or a hindrance to society, but rather as an important part of the natural order.Allowing for the existence of the weak also means creating a society that is inclusive, compassionate, and supportive.A society that is able to support and care for all of its members is one that is more resilient, innovative, and prosperous.
Respect the weak in their state of weakness, without requiring them to become strong or oppressors. Only in this way can the thoughts belonging to women, children, the elderly, and the disabled gradually emerge.
